Passing Semis in the Rain

A Tina Johnson Adventure
by Karen Goldner

When your life falls apart, and it wasn’t much of a life to begin with, the simple response for Tina Johnson is to head for New Orleans. Except it’s not so simple when you look like a federal witness and mob bookkeeper who knows where a drug cartel keeps its cash, and now you’re being hunted by the feds, the mob, and the cartel.

What begins as a road trip quickly turns into a dangerous race to prevent an assassination and collect the big payoff. Along the way Tina discovers romance, friendship, and her own strength. From New Orleans to Miami, this is not the kind of vacation that visitor bureaus advertise.

REVIEW

This was such a fun read!! It reminded me of a cross between Romancing the Stone and Janet Evanovich — although the author definitely has her own voice. A few nice twists that I didn’t see coming, some campy humor that I really enjoyed, and a fast pace which made it an easy read. I finished it in 2 days – which I wasn’t expecting given that I don’t have a lot of free time to read for pleasure (I work full time and I am in school). I also appreciated that a lot of stereotypes were broken in this book — the heroine is almost 50, she still has steamy sex, she doesn’t just fall down and rely on the guy to save her, she has good friends but they don’t define her journey either. I highly recommend it!

MEET THE AUTHOR

Karen Goldner left a lifetime of living in small Midwestern cities to drive around the United States, eventually landing in the King of Midwestern cities. She spends her days helping small businesses grow and her evenings exploring Chicago and writing, not necessarily in that order.

As a college intern, Karen saw her words in print when the Lincoln Star quoted a Nebraska State Senator for whom she had written a speech. On the front page. Above the fold. She was hooked.
